FAQT:77
, [00:00:00] hello, hello, my friends. Welcome to Facebook Ads Quick Tips. My name's Stacy Covitz, your host, and today I am going to, .. Turn back the clock a little bit and talk about my very first client
We spent $3,000 and the results were not anything to write home about
So picture this. I'm brand new. Someone has just said yes to me, so excited. They're trusting me with their business and their money, and I'm so excited I could barely stand it. We set everything up, we launch, and did a lot, made a lot of different tweaks. I knew how to run ads. That was not the problem,
now, before you think I pulled a fast one on this poor woman and took her money and spent her [00:01:00] money, wasted her money, she knew I was brand new. She knew the deal. She knew we were testing things, and the retainer that she paid was just a smidgen above free. So we were both learning. But here's the thing.
The ads weren't bad. We weren't targeting the wrong people. The problem was that I didn't understand what needs to be in place before ads actually work for your business
Her offer wasn't
clear enough. She was brand new as well, She didn't have clear messaging. The landing page didn't really match her offer
I didn't know what I didn't know, and honestly, neither did she
That experience changed how I work forever, and that's why to this day, if I don't think your business is going to benefit from ads yet, [00:02:00] I will tell you that. I'll give you other options. I will let you know, "Hey," you know, and I'm, I'm certainly, I'm not the boss of you. I'm not gonna tell you you can't do ads, but I'm, I'm not going to take your money on a retainer and do your ads for you if your business isn't set up for ads
So what I've learned from being in Ads Manager every day since then was when campaigns don't perform, it's usually not the ads. It's what's going on behind the scenes. A confusing offer sends people to a page that they don't understand. They, they wonder like, "I clicked on this, this looked good, and now
like, where am I? What am I supposed to do?"
Ads don't fix a broken foundation. They shine a light on the broken pieces, which make the cracks more expensive. Back then, I thought my job was to run good [00:03:00] campaigns, and now I know that my job starts a lot earlier than that because
When I look at a business for the first time, knowing what to look for and what pieces are in place, I'm able to discern whether you spending money on ads is a good idea or not. So let's talk about what, what it means to be ads ready, 'cause I think there, there's a lot of misunderstanding.
A lot of people think that it just means you need to have a budget. If you have money to spend on ads, then all is well with the world.
I talk to a lot of people on calls because they're looking to hire someone for doing ads. They say, "I'm ready for ads." And that could mean a lot of different things. It means different things for different people. It could mean, "I've tapped out of my warm market. I can't reach any more [00:04:00] people organically.
I've been trying. I don't wanna do it myself anymore. I've been doing it. I'm tired of it. I don't wanna be an ads manager every day." Or, "I'm doing ads, and I think I could do better if I had, someone create a different strategy for me." And those are all valid reasons to bring someone in.
But I also talk to people who say things like, " Ads have gotta work. Ads have gotta work. This is my last chance in my business, or I'm gonna have to go out of business." Okay, no. That is, that, that's a, that's a no on ads. I will not run ads for someone who it's their last chance for their business
Or I have this great new product I just made or I just created, and I want to start using ads so I can make passive income and sit on the beach
Okay, well that could work, but that's not enough.
I won't even get into the, to the whole [00:05:00] discussion of how passive income is never really passive anyway.
Sometimes I'll ask. Let's say we do ads and they're phenomenally successful, and you get, let's say you get five new people That wanna work with you. Do you have the capacity in your business to handle that? a lot of people don't even think about that.
They think, "I just want more. I want more people. I want more clients. I want more business." But their business isn't even set up to handle that on the back end. So What does it actually mean to be ready? It means you need to have an offer that you can explain in one sentence, and that someone who has never heard of you can understand what that means.
It means a place for them to go that makes sense, that is built to convert
It means having [00:06:00] tracking that's set up properly so you can tell the difference between someone who's interested but not converting versus an ad that just nothing is happening
. And it means knowing who you're talking to, who your client or customer is, and speaking their language so they understand, so Meta understands who you're looking for, and they don't send you a bunch of people that you pay to acquire that aren't the right fit for your product or service Now, you don't have to have everything perfect.
. Nobody has it perfect. But those are some basic things that you do need to have before you start giving your money to Zuckerberg
And my whole thing is helping women in business grow. That's my [00:07:00] whole passion, is to help them grow more leads, more sales, more clients. I want them to make more money, it always bothers me. When I talk to women who waste their money on ads. Nothing is a failure. But the difference is if someone spent money on ads but didn't even know who their ideal client was, that's a waste. Yes, you got data. You got data you figured out, yikes, I don't know who I'm talking to.
So here's the quick tip for today. Before you spend even $1, ask yourself if you've got the foundation to support that. And if you're not sure, I have this quiz for exactly that. It takes about two minutes, , it'll let you know whether you're ready to go, whether you're almost there, or if you've got some work to do The link is in the show notes.
[00:08:00] And that's it for today, my friends. I'll see you next time. Thank you so much for listening
