Thanks for Listening! Send me your questions-maybe I'll do a special episode for you!
You hit that little blue "Boost Post" button, your budget disappears, and... crickets. Sound familiar? In this episode, I'm breaking down exactly why boosted posts feel like they're doing something but rarely bring in actual leads or paying clients.
I'll walk you through the real difference between boosting a post and running a strategic Facebook ad, why Meta loves when you boost (hint: it's not because it's best for your business), and what you should be doing instead if you want your ad spend to actually work.
If you've ever wondered whether boosting counts as "running Facebook ads," this one's for you.
In this episode:
- Why boosted posts give Meta the wheel and you very little control
- The objective problem that's costing you clients
- Why your targeting options are so limited when you boost
- What you're missing without proper Pixel and conversion tracking

FAQT: Ep 58
[00:00:00]
Have you boosted a post before and you were super excited because yay, , Facebook. Prompted you to boost something 'cause it was doing so well and you spent your money and then three days later you were disappointed if that's So, this episode is for you. This is Facebook Ads, quick Tips podcast. I'm Stacy CO's your host, and if this is your first time, I thank you so much and if you are a return listener.
That is amazing. Thank you so much, and congratulations. We just, we just hit our 57th episode, so it's been over a year now, and I, I thank you so much. It's just been amazing. . Well. . I wanna talk about boosted posts. I've done a lot of content about this and I'm sure I have an episode somewhere back at the [00:01:00] beginning.
I'm guessing all about this topic and I just, I wanna make sure that people understand what it means to boost a post and especially. To set up the proper expectations Here's what to expect. When you boost a post. . You will get more people seeing your content, and maybe you'll get some likes, maybe you'll get some shares, maybe you'll get some comments, and that's all really great, right?
Who, who doesn't want all of that stuff? What you need to know is there's some differences, because if you want more than that or if you wanna be more strategic with your advertising, then. Going into Ads Manager, you get a few different [00:02:00] options. Here's three differences between boosting a post and ads manager.
The first one is your objective. When you boost a post, you are giving Facebook or meta all control of everything. The they'll, I think there's a few options. Maybe you could say, I want engagement or traffic or comments or something like that. . If you go into Ads Manager, you can ask for conversions, sales opt-ins, leads, engagement messages, so you have a lot more control there.
The second part is audience. So you have control of your audience. Who's going to see this if you're an ads manager, you could target custom audiences, meaning your own, your very own audiences that you've [00:03:00] created. You could exclude. Let's say you have people that have, are already, your customers are already in your world and you're trying to reach new people.
You could exclude everyone that's already on your list or in your world and only reach new people if you boost a post. You can't do that. . Number three is, and this is the most important as far as I'm concerned, which is the tracking and the optimization ads inside of Ads Manager are connected to your megapixel and the conversion API, which is just a bunch of tech, tech stuff, meaning the server is tracking, the website is tracking.
And that gives you control as far as if you want to retarget and reach specific people. So in a boosted post, you don't get that. , You get to have a lot of reach and people coming into your [00:04:00] world and, and seeing your content. But you don't really have the data. And if you want to continue marketing using ads and really being strategic, then you want that data so you can come back and make more informed decisions next time because it's all about testing.
, Here's where I get a little bit passionate about it, and it's just mostly people come to me. Because they've done ads and they'll say ads don't work. It was a waste of money. And really they didn't, they weren't in Ads Manager, they weren't doing ads. , If, if you wanna be intentional with your advertising, that's not boosting posts.
So they're disappointed because. Facebook sent them a little popup, oh, hey, this image, this video did really well. How about. We boost it for you, or you press this big [00:05:00] giant blue button and say, give us permission and we'll send it out to so many more people and it'll be so great.
And next thing you know, you've spent 50 bucks and you thought all these wonderful things were gonna happen. You were gonna have all these new followers, you're gonna opt-ins, maybe sell a few things, and. It didn't look like from your end anything really happened. You might've had some likes and that feels great, but that doesn't really convert or pay the bills necessarily, right?
So I just, I always wanna make sure that people have proper expectations and that they understand what boosting a post is. That is it. I thank you so much for being here and I would love for you if you found this helpful , follow us and if you'd like to come hang out in our school community, it is in the show notes and I would love to see you [00:06:00] there.
See you next time.
