48: How to Tell If It’s Your Ad or Your Funnel That’s Broken

Thanks for Listening! Send me your questions-maybe I'll do a special episode for you!
So far we've covered how to know when you're ready for sales ads, what is a self-liquidating offer, and how the goal is to build a list of buyers and hopefully break even. So if you've missed any of those, go back—it's the last three episodes.
But today's message is: if you've ever said, "my ads just aren't working," this one's for you. Because in most cases, it's not necessarily your ad. It's your funnel.
What Is Your Ad's Real Job?
It has one job, and that is to get the right person to see your offer.
If people are clicking your ad, then Meta's doing its job. It found your audience, it got them curious enough to check you out.
But what happens after the click? That's your funnel's territory. That's where the sale or the signup or the conversion either happens or dies.
How do you know what the problem actually is? Let's just break this down simply:
If no one is clicking → It's probably your ad. It's either your hook, your creative, something like that needs some work.
If they're clicking but not buying → It's your funnel. Something between the click and the checkout isn't landing. And there could be a lot of things in between.
If they buy your low ticket product but never take the next step → they never buy anything else from you. Then that's your nurture sequence or your follow-up that needs help.
The data will tell you exactly where to look.
What Actually Goes Wrong Inside a Funnel?
- Too Many Steps
- An Unclear Offer
- No Urgency or Next Step
What Do You Do to Fix It?
Simplify and Guide.
Every page, every step needs guidance for the next thing.
The Good News
If your ads are getting clicks, that means your front door works. People are interested. You don't need a new strategy.
You just need to fix what's happening after the click.

And this is the Facebook ad quick tip podcast and I'm Stacey Kovetz, your host. And today we are wrapping up our SLO funnel series, which is all about building small, smart sales campaigns that actually pay for themselves. So far we've covered how to know when you're ready for sales ads. What is a self liquidating offer?
and how the goal is to build a list of buyers and hopefully break even. So if you've missed any of those, go back. It's the last three episodes. But today's message is, if you've ever said, my ads just aren't working, this one's for you. Because in most cases, it's not necessarily your ad, it's your funnel.
So what is the ad's real job? Let's start with what the job of the ad is. It has one job, and that is to get the right person to see your offer. That's it. It's to drive people or the right person to your offer.
If people are clicking your ad, then Meta's doing its job. It found your audience, it got them curious enough to check you out, but what happens after the click, that's your funnels territory. That's where the sale or the signup or the conversion either happens or dies. Think of it like this. Your ad is the invitation.
Hey, come look at my stuff. Your funnel is the party. If people show up, but leave two minutes after they get there, it's not because the invitation was bad, it's because the party wasn't what they expected or wanted.
So how do you know what's broken? How do you know what the problem actually is? So let's just break this down simply. If no one is clicking, it's probably your ad. It's either your hook, your creative, something like that needs some work. If they're clicking but not buying, it's your funnel. Something between the click and the checkout isn't landing. And there could be a lot of things in between.
If they buy your low ticket product, but never take the next step, they never go for another offer or into your more, they never take the next step or buy anything else from you. Then that's your nurture sequence or your followup that needs help. So it's all about the data. The data will tell you exactly where to look.
You don't need to guess, just follow the breadcrumb trail. Just follow the data.
Now let's talk about what actually goes wrong inside of a funnel. What is creating friction? What is, what is stopping the process of the sale? Number one, too many steps. People shouldn't feel like they have to do so many things, jump through so many hooks, jump through so many hoops or feel like they're in a maze.
just to either find out what it is you're selling or make the purchase. Number two, an unclear offer. They land on your page and they either don't know what it is or why it's important or why it matters to them. Number three, no urgency or next step. Even if they buy the first product, there's no guidance.
There's no follow through. They don't know what to do next.
So what do you do to fix it? Simplify and guide. Every page, every step needs guidance for the next thing. Don't distract, direct them. They need to know. So your ad should say, click here, buy here, download now, something like that, right? When they get there,
the landing page, the opt-in form, whatever it is, needs to make sense, needs to tell them, fill this out. Once they fill it out, how do they know where to find what they purchased? That's the next step, and so on.
So here's the good news. If your ads are getting clicks, that means your front door works. People are interested. You don't need a new strategy. You just need to fix what's happening after the click. And that's way easier than rebuilding everything from scratch. So next time you're tempted to say, my ads aren't working, just pause, have a look at your funnel metrics, all about the metrics and the data.
not emotions, right? And that's usually where you'll find the gold and the fix.
So if this hits home and you're realizing, okay, maybe my ad is fine. It's what's happening after that needs help.
