0:00:00 Have you ever had a post, a Facebook post that does pretty well and you get a pop up from Facebook or an opportunity, they send you something that says hey, you got or hey, a lot of people really excited about what you shared. Boost this post or get, you know, get a thousand more people to see it for $5.
0:00:56 - (Stacy Covitz): That's what today's episode is all about. I talk so much, it seems on the negative side about boosting posts. And here's why I feel like I need to explain this because I, I put this a lot in when I'm talking about mistakes that you could make. And, and let, let me share today why I am so passionate about this. I have a lot of people come to me and say, stacy, my ads didn't work. Ads don't work for me. Ads are a was.
0:01:31 - And when I ask follow up questions because I'm very curious by nature, I will ask you a lot of questions. A lot of times I find out it's because this person actually boosted their post. Now let's get into why that's different. Boosting a post isn't the worst thing in the world you could do. I just want to be clear about that. There are, there are some reasons why it's a good idea and I'll do another episode about that sometime. But today I want to talk about why I rant about it and why I think it's not a great idea in most cases.
0:02:13 - The question I asked at the beginning was how many of you received one of these messages from Facebook and you went, okay, yeah, five bucks, I'll get a thousand more people to see this. That's amazing. And you click on it, get the bill and you're wondering and you're scratching your head like, hmm, what did that actually do for me? I didn't sell anything. Nobody reached out to me, Nobody. I didn't seem to get any opt ins or whatever your goal or what you're hoping to happen.
0:02:45 - So let's get into it. Let's talk about the difference. What is a boosted post? It's exactly what it sounds like. You are able to take a post that got a little bit of engagement, some people liked it, some people commented and essentially put Some money behind it and get more of the same. More people to see it, more people to like it. Here's what you're not going to get. You're not going to get anybody to buy anything because that's not the intent.
0:03:24 - The intent of a boosted post is to get it out there and to have it be seen. Have that post be seen by more people. That's great. You might build your audience that way. Here's why it's not so great. If you were hoping for sales or opt ins or some sort of lead or someone to message you or something like that, then you need to go in and you need to go into ads manager and that's the difference. Boosted post is something that you can do very simply.
0:04:03 - Usually it's from a pop up. Usually it's because Facebook has enticed you to do so with their. Get a lot of people. This is great. You did such a good job. Oh, that voice. You got kind of excited and you, you went ahead and you did it and it was super easy and but at the end you ended up paying 10 bucks, 11 bucks and you don't feel like it did anything. And so that's why I rant about it because I feel like it. It's not a bait and switch.
0:04:34 - I don't even want to say that because that's, you know, that's not being fair to Facebook. They're just trying to make it super simple for you to get more engagement or more people to see your post. But I think it's confusing the way it happens because a lot of times it's somebody who has no idea how to do Facebook ads. They're just, you know, they're posting a regular post on Facebook and now they're getting this opportunity to pay some money.
0:05:05 -Yay. To get. Maybe, maybe they're thinking, oh my gosh, maybe I'll go viral or something like that. When you do Facebook ad ads, you are actually going into Facebook Ads Manager, which is this very robust platform. You could do so much more targeting. You have a lot more control over your reporting. You're going to get a lot more numbers and metrics to look at. You have more opportunity for objectives.
0:05:39 - So you could specifically set up an ad inside ads manager for sales. What that does is it tells Facebook, hey, find me people that buy things. Go out and find people that buy things on Facebook because I am willing to pay to show this ad to those people. Boosted posts don't do that. And again, this is where I get kind of ranty about it. Because I think that people have the wrong impression and they don't have the right expectations.
0:06:12 - My purpose in my business is always to help the business owner to make more money, especially not waste money. And so a lot of times when they come to me and they say I did ads and they didn't work and we find out that, well, you really didn't. You did a boosted post, which is kind of like an ad, but you didn't get the best opportunity there to get the best results. Because what you really wanted was sales.
0:06:43 - What you really wanted was people to get on your list. Can you do that with a boosted post? No. I feel like maybe you were misinformed. That's my little short explanation. I have a lot more out there about this because I am so passionate about this topic. If you want to know more about the difference between boosting posts and Facebook ads, I do have some videos. Go ahead and hit follow. Send me a message. I set up the text opportunity on this where if you want to ask me a question I can maybe answer it.
